Do You Struggle with Weight Loss?

Are you struggling to lose weight?
People overeat for a variety of reasons:
  • Our poor food choices
  • Emotional hunger
  • Unmet needs
  • Repressed feelings
  • Confusion around self identity
  • A call for love and help
  • Self hatred
  • Our disconnection from the body
  • Past history of sexual abuse
  • Being wounded by love
  • Financial worries
  • Repressed creativity
  • Being someone we are not
  • The need to forgive and move on
  • The need to earn how to truly nourish and care for oneself
  • Loneliness
In an article in The Institute for the Psychology of Eating, they say to "listen to your weight".  I have not researched this group, so I don't know how science based their research is, but I believe that it is important to look at the reason an overweight person thinks they struggle with weight.  Going on a "diet" is never the long term answer to the problem.  A 30 day "cleanse fast", or short term low carb diet is not the answer to life long weight management and health.

Dude Food Recipe from Jeff Bridges

Since I have a "Dude Food" section, I thought it would be appropriate to ask "the real deal DUDE from The Big Lebowski", Jeff Bridges, for one of his favorite recipes.
He sent me a favorite from a page in his Mom's, Dorothy Bridges, "Tried & True" recipe book.
Many thanks to both Jeff and Dorthy!

Bill's Scrambled Eggs with a Kick

Sunday morning after church, the entire family always looks forward to Bill's Scrambled Eggs.  No ho-hum eggs here...not with dried chilies and hot sauce!

They are not just hot though....they are also savory.

He is sharing his recipe:
1/4 to 1/3 lb of Jimmy Dean's Hot Sausage
2 shakes of dried chilis
Cook and crumble.

Beat 5 to 6 eggs and add 4 to 5 shakes of hot sauce, then pour over the crumbled sausage.
Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until cooked soft.

Top with grated sharp cheddar cheese before serving.
Yum!  They are addictive!
Thanks for sharing your recipe Bill!

Favorite Saturday Morning Breakfast

Just got back from an hour and a half walk in the woods with my girlfriend and Sophie.  Not just wonderful exercise but talking with a friend, having my four footed friend with me and enjoying nature contributes to a healthy life......followed by my favorite Saturday breakfast..
An apple (full of vitamin C and fiber) with crunchie peanut butter (protein & mono-saturated fats), raisins (iron & potassium), and cinnamon (anti oxidants).  There are so many fun flavors and textures going on!

How Do You Prefer YOUR Oreo Cookies?

Food can be FUN, and it is so comforting the great scientific minds are helping us in that endeavor.
Check out what machines can do for us now----separate the cookie part of the Oreo from the creamy center.  That's right----I know we'll all sleep better tonight knowing that.  In the mean time, you should check out the video, it is FUN!

Portion Control is KEY

Food has gone through a technological revolution in the US in the last 50 years. Food is available in more variety, in more forms and in more combinations than ever before. The key word in that previous sentence,(click on link for details)

Science has known that for years (which is why I have an entire section labeled "easy portion tips").  But science based knowledge bears repeating!

Is Gluten Free Right for Everyone?????

Everyone is talking about GLUTEN FREE diets.
So many are eating Gluten Free---but do so many need them.
Doubtful.
There was an interesting article in the New York Times
I'm writing an article for "The Nutritionist" but can't post it on my blog till it publishes
in May (Celiac Disease Month)

It is true that even if you do not have Celiac Disease---you can have a true sensitivity to Gluten.  (I was diagnosed recently.)  Go to your physician and be tested BEFORE you go on a Gluten Free diet, because the blood test for antibodies can be negative if done after being on a gluten free diet.

Here are a number of helpful websites if you need more support or details.

Be NICE to YOU

Pick something that makes you feel good…
I’ll give you some suggestions to get you started, but pick anything that sounds good to you.  Honor yourself by showing yourself care.
  • Drink too much coffee, tea, soda?  Try drinking just ONE extra glass of water a day.
  • Try eating ONE extra serving of Fruit or Veggie one day a week.
  • Add GOOD STUFF!!!!
