Thanksgiving is a special time to remember the Bravery of our Mayflower Ancestors family..... crossing the Very rough Atlantic Ocean in a Wooden sailing ship... when many people in that time still believed the world was FLAT!!! Stephen Hopkins New World Adventure began as part of a re-supply caravan of ships sailing to Jamestown, to bring the settlers much needed food, ammunition and clothing as part of a caravan re-supply ships going to Jamestown. the ship that Stephen Hopkins was on, Ship wrecked in the Bermuda Triangle!! living during the time of the black death in Europe, was difficult. I imagine that Stephen thought the resupply job, would bring him more money to care for his family than trying to survive as a small shop owner, when many of his customers were dropping dead from the Black Plague!
While he was gone from England, his wife died and his 2 children( Constance and Giles) were put into an orphanage by the church. there was a writer on the ship, that chronicled the shipwreck and their adventures. He took the story back to England and passed it around his other writing and theater friends..... The book "The Tempest" by Shakespeare, tells the story of our ancestor, Stephen Hopkins!!!!!People in that era liked to hear of adventures in the New World... and our story was a good one, and we hope our children and grand children remember the efforts of our ancestors! So, below is our Thanksgiving table, with a Tee of Life, a votive candle with the names of each of our Ancestors that arrived on the Mayflower. Two of the 3 Sister plants(corn, beans, squash which the Wampanoug-Pautuxit Indians and Pilgrims grew.
